Is It Time for an Upgrade?

Your BERNINA has been a trusted companion through countless projects, and that’s something to be proud of. But as machines age, replacement parts can become harder to source, repairs may take longer, and newer technology offers features that make sewing more enjoyable than ever.

If you’ve been thinking about upgrading, now is the perfect time to take advantage of our Trade-In Promotion. Trade in your current machine and step up to a newer BERNINA with improved performance, enhanced features, and the reliability you can count on for years to come.

We’ll help you find the ideal machine for your sewing journey while ensuring your current BERNINA can continue its story with a new owner.

Trade in. Trade up. Sew with confidence.

Bernina sewing machine shop store front

Bernina Durban

Bernina Durban was born in Durban, South Africa.
Tim and Dawn Owen, owners of BERNINA Pinetown, founded the store in July 1984.
There were just a few models in the BERNINA product line at the time, including the BERNINA 930, 931, 932, 910, 801 and 802, and the first overlocker, the Bernette 203, was introduced just weeks after the store opened.

Debbie Becker, the current owner of BERNINA Durban, is Tim and Dawn’s daughter. Debbie was surrounded by fabric, sewing machines, and creativity as a child, so it’s no surprise she joined the family business in 1984.

Debbie and her husband Edward bought the store in August 1991 and transferred it to a larger location on Broadway in Durban North.

In 2004, the store relocated to a larger location higher up the road.
Today, the shop offers a wide selection of haberdashery, BERNINA sewing machines, overlockers, and embroidery machines, cotton fabrics, as well as a sewing school and a full technical workshop.
The duo goes to considerable lengths to provide extraordinary personal service to its consumers.
They’ve focused in training their employees, so there’s always someone who can assist with just about any aspect of the industry.
